Mahindra has recently launched two futuristic electric SUVs XEV 9e and Be 6 in India. Both looks stunningly beautiful and powerful. Both the vehicles are introduced with two battery packs-59kWh and 79kWh. Delivery of the models are not yet started but you can log your interest through the official website. Here we are comparing both models.

The interiors of the XEV 9e and BE 6 are both modern and feature-rich, but they have distinct styles:

Mahindra XUV 700

XUV700 is the flagship SUV from the house of Mahindra. It is available in Petrol and Diesel power trains. Price for the base MX variant of the XUV700 starts at Rs.13.99 lakh and goes up to Rs.26.99 lakh ex-showroom for the top end AX7(AWD) Diesel variant.

It is a well crafted vehicle with great look and state of the art features. XUV700 is a very handsome vehicle from exterior. The vehicle comes with long bonnet with nice grilles. LED headlamps and DRLS are well placed. Fog lamps are nicely tugged on the lower bumper. The skid plate provided under the bumper enhancing its SUV style from front view.

While come to the sides, you can feel the length of the vehicle. XUV700 is having a length of 4695mm and having 2750mm wheelbase. The SUV sits on 18 inch alloy wheels, where as the lower variants are provided with 17 inch alloys. It has unique body coloured door flush handles. These door handles comes out only while approaching the vehicle, is a nice feature of the XUV700.

Rear View XUV700

At the back, you can see a set of beautiful LED tail lamps, large thick bumper, high mounted stop lamp, rear wiper etc. Shark fin antenna is provided on the top. The XUV700 having a boot area of 200 liters with third row seats in up right position, but it can be enlarged by folding the third row seats. The second row seats are also having 60:40 folding function, so you can further increase its loading area by folding these seats if required.

Touch screen system of XUV700

By entering, you will be greeted with a long dual HD super screen of the XUV700. It is a pack of 26.03cm touch screen infotainment system and a 26.03cm digital cluster. A shade is provided on top of the screen is a nice and useful thing while driving the vehicle on severe sunlight. The screen is very clear and easy to navigate. This system can support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, also it houses controls of several systems of the vehicle including the controls of 12 speaker Sony music system and rear view camera. Amazon Alexa is also integrated with this system, this makes things much easier by opening the sun roof of the vehicle by a command to controlling even the A/c or lights  of your home from the vehicle itself.

Front seats of the vehicle are very comfortable, the top end variant comes with ventilated front seats. Driver seat height can be adjusted electrically, in fact it is a 6-way adjustable seat with memory function, the adjustment switches are provided on the doors as we used to find on Mercedes Benz cars. Dual zone A/c is provided. A/c control switches are of very good quality. Touch and feel of the steering wheel is also very good. It is having telescopic adjustments. Buttons of radio telephony and cruise control are provided on the steering wheel. 

The XUV 700 having good storage spaces on the center console and under the driver arm rest. Storage under the driver arm rest and the glove box are having cooling function too. Apart from this you will get bottle holders on all four doors and two cup holders on the rear seat arm rest of the vehicle. Other features includes, a wireless mobile charger, a 12 V charger and a fast charging port for front passengers and rear A/c vents and two mobile charging points are made available for rear passengers.

It is a very spacious vehicle with all three rows with A/c vents, mobile charging points and bottle/cup holders. This SUV is available in 6 and 7 seats configuration. The second row seats having a slant function for a certain degree is a useful feature on long journeys. It's large glass area and panoramic sunroof are all making us to feel it more spacious than really it is.

Mahindra XUV 400

Mahindra has introduced a long wheel base variant of its well known SUV, XUV 300. But with this new avatar it comes with electric motor instead of the IC engine. This new Mahindra XUV 400 is now available in three variants. The price of the XUV 400 starts at Rs.15.99 Lakh for the base EC variant and goes up to Rs.18.99 Lakh ex-showroom for the top end EL variant.

Front XUV400

The Mahindra XUV 400 is a good looking vehicle from every angle. It looks similar to the XUV300. At the front you can see projector headlamps and LED DRLs. 

Bonnet XUV400

As it is an EV, the radiatore grille portion is covered here with a metal plate. Mahindra logo and small copper coloured designs can be seen on that plate. Lot of copper elements are provided on the front bumper. A skid plate provided on the car retains its SUV style from the front.

Side of XUV400

You can see the beautiful 16 inch diamond cut alloy wheels of the XUV 400 from sides. Black electrically foldable ORVMs are provided with turn indicators. Thick black claddings provided on the wheel arches and at the door bottom are making it muscular from sides. It is a 4.2meter long vehicle with 2.6 meter wheelbase, you can notice that length from sides.

Rear view XUV 400

At the rear you can find a beautifully designed muscular looking tail gate of the XUV 400. Tail lamps provided on the car  perfectly syncing with the overall design of the tail gate. A thick bumper with reflectors and skid plate are making it a perfect SUV from rear.

The XUV 400 is also provided with a single pane sunroof and grab rails.

XUV400 Dashboard

The XUV 400 comes with all black interior with some copper inserts at dash board and at the centre console. 

Even though it is a new gen electric vehicle you can't see that flashing or eye-catching designs or equipments in this SUV that usually find with other EVs. It could have improved its touch screen infotainment system, which looks outdated. It is a 7 inch infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Reverse parking camera is also integrated with this system. Driver side display provided on the vehicle is very clear. Battery charge, brake energy regeneration and range informations are provided on it. It has a good leather wrapped steering wheel, audio control buttons are provided on it.

As mentioned earlier, it is a long vehicle and having a 2600mm wheelbase, this makes the XUV 400 a very spacious vehicle in its class. It comes with very comfortable seats at the front and back. Although we miss ventilated seats even as an optional package. It has good shoulder room at the back and so three people can sit comfortably here. Again, we miss  rear A/c vent in this vehicle.

The XUV 400 available in three variants with a single electric motor and two battery packs. The three variants are..
  • XUV 400 EC
  • XUV 400 EC Fast Charger
  • XUV 400 EL Fast Charger 
The EC variants of the XUV400 comes with 34.5kW battery packs and the EL variant is provided with a 39.4kW battery pack. With the help of a 50kW DC fast charger, The 39.4kW battery pack can be charged from 0-80% in 50 min. Other options are AC chargers. This vehicle can be fully charged in 6.5 hours with a 7.2kW AC fast charger but it will take 13 hours to get charged with 3.3 kW charger. Also you can charge the XUV400 with a portable charger that can be plugged into any 16A domestic power outlet.

It is a fun to drive electric SUV. The electric motor produces 150PS power and 310Nm torque to the front wheels, enabling this SUV to clock 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds! Moreover the XUV 400 is provided with FUN, FAST AND FEARLESS drive modes, which gives the freedom to opt the desired drive mode as per the need.

In conclusion, the Mahindra XUV 400 is a powerfull, handsome and a well built electric SUV. It promises good drivability along with 456km claimed range. Although it misses some important features like rear A/c vents and ventilated seats, it comes with a very practical and spacious cabin with nice and comfortable seats. Definitely you can consider this vehicle if you are in the budget range of its price tag.

SCORPIO-N

           



The Big Daddy has arrived! Yes, you read right, it is non other than the all new Mahindra Scorpio-N. Mahindra calls it as Big Daddy of all SUVs. Is it really worth for the title Big Daddy? Let's check it out what's in it.

The new Scorpio is from the Body on Frame platform. Mahindra calls it as a global SUV. Now it is longer, wider and larger in wheel base than the regular Scorpio Classic. However it is shorter in height than the Classic Scorpio.

Dimension: 4662mm L x 1917mm W x 1857mm H

Wheelbase: 2750m.

The Scorpio-N available in Z2,Z4,Z6,Z8 & Z8L variants.

At the front you can find a beautiful and bold Mahindra's signature grill with chrome finished slats on it. Mahindra logo placed on it looks beautiful.

The SUV comes with Dual LED projector head lamps with sequential turn indicator. At the down side of the bumper we can see the LED fog lamps with C-shaped DRLs. There is a large air dam and a skid plate on the bumper,which elevates the SUV look of the car.

From sides you can notice the massive 18inch alloy wheels and big wheel arches of the Scorpio. A long foot board is provided to step inside the cabin. Windows are wide and are underlined in chrome.

Strong shoulder line makes it muscular from sides. ORVMs are body coloured and turn indicators are integrated on it. Door handles are in chrome finish. Scorpio's roof rails are also looking attractive from sides. Thus from sides, it is a long and muscular SUV.

When comes to rear, you can see the long vertical tail lamps on both sides of the boot door, which looks beautiful. A rear wiper is provided. It's tail gate is very large and it opens outwards. Boot space is very minimal when the third row seats are in upright, but it can be increased by folding the third row seats. A spare wheel is provided underneath the car. Overall, the SUV looks good from rear.

Interior

By entering into the cabin you can feel the premiumness of the car. It is the modern, upmarket and very futuristic cabin.It has Rich-Coffee black leatherette interior. The seats are well contoured and  perforated but there is no ventilated seats on offer. 

Interior front

There is an 8 inch touch screen infotainment system on the centre console, having Mahindra AdrenoX connectivity feature. With this you can remotely operate the car from your mobile. It has Alexa connectivity too. This system also supports wireless Android auto and Apple Carplay (wired). It has 12 speaker 3D surround sound system from Sony which provides excellent sound quality inside the cabin.

Switches provided under the infotainment system are very nice. Touch and feel of these switches are very good.

Two cup holders are provided at the centre (only one in automatic variants). There is small storage space under the front arm-rest. Bottle holders are provided on all four doors. A single pane sun-roof is provided. Steering wheel and gear lever are leather wrapped. Volume control and cruise control switches are provided on the steering wheel. Start/stop switch is also provided in this SUV.

There is an 8 inch screen on the meter console,which provides all the vehicle related information and it can also be used as navigation display. Grab handles provided on both A pillars enhances the SUV style of the vehicle from inside.

Driver seat can be adjusted electrically in 6 ways whereas the steering wheel can be adjusted manually for tilt function only. No telescopic adjustment is there in any variant. Two USB chargers and a wireless mobile charging pad are provided at front. The vehicle comes with dual zone A/c. There is camera on front and rear of the car. 

Even though the Scorpio is feature-rich, this  SUV lacks some good and useful features like Auto dimming mirror, telescopic adjustment on steering wheel, ventilated seats and 360 degree camera.

We can feel the height of the car from second row too. You will get very good leg,shoulder and head room in this row. Long windows providing good outside view and more brightness inside the cabin. There are two A/c vents with blower control and a Type C USB charger is also provided in the A/c vents.

The second row seats are available in two configurations-Two captain seat and bench seat configurations. The bench seat having a centre arm rest with two cup holders on it. 

To enter into the third row we have to tumble the second row seat from the left side of the car. This seat have a one touch tumble function. By entering into the third row you feel it very cramped. This row is ideal or best fit for children under 10 year old.

Drivability

This rear wheel drive vehicle have very refined petrol and diesel engines on offer. The mStallion turbo-petrol  engine produces 203Hp power. It is a very quick engine and responds well with both the automatic and manual gear boxes. But this engine is available with 2 wheel drive variants only. 

Diesel engine comes with two state of tuning. The lower variants get 131 Bhp power and the upper variants will be rewarded with 175Bhp. Power comes in linear manner. There are three driving modes provided in 2WD variants. They are Zip,Zap & Zoom.
  • Zip mode can be used to get more fuel efficiency.
  • Zap mode is to drive in city driving.
  • Zap mode is for more enthusiastic drive on highways.
Creep function in automatic variants works well in city driving conditions. Now with the updated engines and gear box set up the car feels more stable on highway speeds. Now it gives confidence  on corners. With the improved suspension set up you feel less bouncy on rear seats. Cabin insulation is excellent, tyre and road noise are well contained. As it is a ladder on frame SUV the body roll is evident, but is minimal when compare to the size and ground clearance of the vehicle.

Four wheel drive variants-Z8 and Z8L comes with 4XPLOR Intelligent 4X4 system with selectable Terrain Modes (Normal, Snow, Mud & Ruts, Sand). This system makes this SUV a perfect off-roader.

Engine Specifications.

Petrol Engine:The 2.0L mStallion Turbo-Petrol engine produces max.power of 149.14kW@5000r/min and the Max. Torque of 370Nm@1750-3000r/min in Manual variant and 380Nm@1750-3000 r/min in Automatic variants.

Diesel Engine:The new 2.2L mHawk GenII Diesel engine produces the Max. Power of 128.6kW@3500r/min in upper variants and 97kW@3750r/min in lower variants. The upper Automatic variants  produces Max. Torque of 400Nm@1750-2750r/min and 370Nm@1500-3000r/min by Manual variants whereas the lower manual variants (Z2&Z4) produces Max. Torque of 300Nm@1500-3000r/min.

Safety: The Scorpio comes with host of safety features. ESC, Hill-Hold Assist, Hill-DecentControl,Roll-Over Mitigation, Driver Drowsiness Detection,ABS+EBD, Parking sensor, 6 airbags,TPMS, Disc brakes on all wheels and many more. You can check the full details from the Mahindra's website.

Recenty the Scorpio-N has received 5 Star rating for Adult occupant and 3 star rating for Child occupant safety from GNCAP.

The new Scorpio is a very long and massive SUV. It is safe and feature rich, it is modern and convenient. It is very powerful. It can handle any terrain with ease. With all these qualities it becomes a Big Daddy, yes it is the Big Daddy of all SUVs.

Definitely you can consider this world class SUV if you are in the budget range between 12 and 25 Lakh Rupees. It is a great SUV in all sense.
